I'm starting my first garden, like my grandpas i want it to grow and actually have fruits of my labor. He always saved like banana peels or potato peels or something around those lines and took them out and put them on his garden, I was 7 I don't remember exactly what it was. I also jus need general tips. I'm growing peas, green beans, sweet corn, tomatos peppers, squash, onions and potatos(Extra help on onions and potatos)

You don't need to use compost, althogh starting a compost bin is a good idea. Compost is excellent fertilizer for your garden. If you are just starting out you can find bags of good rich garden soil at your local home center. Till some of that into the ground along with some peat moss.
If you start a compost bin this year you will probably have enough compost to use in your garden by next year.
