Maybe he was drunk, but he's in a bad state of mind right now. The last thing you need is for him to get suicidal and want to take you with him. Get your family out while you can. He needs help, but it's not your problem anymore. Once he laid hands on you like that, you no longer should have anything to do with him and his future other than ensuring you and your kids are not a part of it. If you have no one else to go to, at least go to a shelter until you can find different arrangements. At least you'll be safe. You never know if the next time he screws around like that, it could get worse. Once he's gone down that road, it's time to take a hike!
