Compatability swapping 92 Ford 4L V6 with later model 4.2 L V6?

I have a 92 ford explorer and would like to swap out the worn out 4L V6 with newer model V6 preferably a 4.2 L V6 or is there allot of work involved? (Changing chips, wiring etc)
