...he Civil War? Can anyone tell me how to compare the economic and social systems in the North and the South before the civil war?
It would also help if you could give some sample essays on this topic. :)

The North survived on factory work mostly. The textile (clothes & fabric) industry hit big in the North. However, the North didn't seem to realize what the clothes came from, which was cotton. Cotton was grown in the South, which was largely of an agricultural place. You know, farms and stuff.
Each benefited from the other. Slavery had a big part to play in the harvesting of all this cotton, and when the North tore the South a new one, the South suffered for years to come because of the large expanses of crops that had to be brought in and no slaves to do it.
