Compact Flash vs SD card, would using either one make an impact on the camera if I...

...buy one? I've been looking to get a new DSLR camera. When I was looking at the specs of some cameras, it said they use Compact Flash or SD cards. I personally never thought if a CF card would make a difference on the camera (Ex: Writing the image data on the card faster when taking a picture) because I never used a CF card before. I know they can write and read faster on a computer, but don't know if they are more of a benefit to the camera. So should I shake up a little extra money to get a CF card or stick to the commonly used SD card? Hope someone out there that used both can answer.
Thanks for your time reading this! :D

Btw I'm no super professional photographer or anything, just a college student. Photography is more of a past time/hobby I like. I would use the card for all range of photos from landscape to action shots. I don't know if this info would make a difference.

If you don't already have money invested in either, go CF. It's better in the long run. I never noticed how slow SD was either... until I started shooting burst mode with a DSLR. And download times, especially if you shoot RAW, are kind of long without CF.
