Communication issues with my mom! idk what to do?!?

I have lived with just my mom since I was at least 11 and i am 17 now. Ive always had a problem with talking to my mom about anything without feeling like i have to force the word to come out. Im not sure whats wrong with me that i cant eve talk to my mom like a normal teen. I feel like its because we both have alwayz been pretty close but shes never been open to me about anything..shes really conservative... Its really akward talking about sex and even sometimes boys in general. Im sure alot of teens go through this..but i feel like me nd my mom should be more open. I dont really like to talk to her, and when i do i have o be in a very goo dmood. I fee like if i was raised to where me nd my mom could talk about anything and we spent more quality time together i woudn t be ike this. I talk to my stepdad about whats going on in my life more than my mom. What should i do.? i cant talk to her about it obviously cuz thts the issue.
