i had a best friend of mine leave for marine boot camp on monday and he will be coming back in january. i was just wonder if anyone has been through boot camp or personally knows someone who has and if they are different when they came home. what should i expect? i'm really nervous for him to come home...

I went through boot camp 2 yrs ago. My family and friends didn't think that I changed much at all. I was for the most part the same o' me before I enlisted. The experience and changes will vary from Marine to Marine but usually the change is for the better.

It varies from person to person how boot camp effects them. Some people don't change at all, others get a huge boost of confidence, and others get extremely cocky and arrogant. It all depends on their personality and their experiences while in boot camp. 9 times out of 10 they come out feeling a great sense of pride and accomplishment which some people mistake for cockiness. More than likely though, once he gets back with you and all your friends he will essentially be the same person, that's pretty much how I was.

No, he won't change that much. When I came home for boot camp everybody told me I didn't change at all. The only thing they said that changed was that I walked a lot faster and I was always inpatient. Boot Camp will do that to you.

Yes it changes you but not how you might think. The change will be different for everyone. They will be filled with pride and confidence and will tend to show less emotion at first.

But as time goes by this wears off..

You can read the second story here. It explains alot about changes from boot camp.

Sweetie one thing and one thing only.....be proud if he comes home from boot camp......not everyone is cut out to be a Marine. Yes he will be different. DISCIPLINED AND MORE RESPECTFUL. Now not all will stay that way but for the most part...be proud. If he writes you write back!!!!! Show him that you are proud of him, they love letters from home. The first few weeks he will not be able to write, that is normal. But please answer his mail.
