Comedy DVDs - Best & Worst You've Seen

Just watched a few of my favourite comedians on DVD.

A couple of them I got on DVD for Xmas were Lee Evans and Billy Connolly.

They made me check back on some old foootage I've collected over the years, and I've had a roaring time watching them all. :D :D

However, having done that, I feel that some of our superstar, international comedians are a bit overplayed compared to their earlier days.

Do you agree? And if so, who still makes you laugh to this day, or made you laugh more in their heyday?

My favourite has been Eddie Izzard in the past. If you have not seen those live shows, then they really are good. Very intelligent humour with some actual historical information mixed in !

Lee Evans and Jack Dee videos were all pretty good too over the years. I particularly like the Lee Evans live in Scotland.

Of the current bunch, Ricky Gervais is good stand-up, more-so the first, - "Animals". I quite like Peter Kay too. Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey are definately worth a look too.

As a fellow Geordie, Ross Noble can be very funny. I have seen him live twice, and is maybe better live than he comes over on the DVD's. Yet to see 'Sonic Waffle', but its on my 'to-watch' list :)

was classic noble and Dee, Kay, Gervais, Morgan and Bailey all smack my funny bone hard.

But Chris Rock and Bill Hicks are my Favs and Gorman is pure class.

Lee Evans XL is funny

Anything Billy Connolly does is funny

And Peter Kay, although a bit repetitive, is funny also.

But ...

Roy Chubby Brown and all those other comedians who get there laughs from making fun of the less fortunate ... are also kinda funny lol

I loved Eddie Izzard when I was younger - we used to spend ages drinking at a pals house (her parents went away a lot) and watching his shows - my fav was always 'Glorious;. I saw him live a couple of years ago when he toured with 'Sexie' - was so funny i think i peed a little.

Last year I discovered Bill Bailey and he is now my absolute favourite. I could watch 'Part Troll' over and over again. Am also dying to see Dylan Moran's 'Monster' only I cant afford it atm.....

I want to watch more Jo Brand but I've never got round to it but i think she is so funny too.

Ross Noble I'm not so fond of although to be honest I have only seen him when channel 4 showed 'Sonic Waffle' last week. He is funny when he sometimes turns up on the radio i listen to.

My OH is a Lee Evans fan - I like some of his stuff but not all tbh.

Lastly, I also love Billy Connolly. Especially his early stuff in the 70's - so funny and so true! Does anyone feel that he has kinda lost his edge and funniness in recent years - didn't enjoy the latest dvd he brought out as much.

So that sums up my sense of humour - make of it what you will......

have to agree with you babeegirl about Billy Connelly's last DVD........not a patch on his earlier stuff.

The best one I liked of Lee Evans was the one when he first went to Glasgow. He was scared stiff at the reception he might receive, but what a performance he put on. Excellent!

I think most comedians earlier stuff is always the best as they are more raw and impulsive. Billy Connelly's latest stuff is a sheer example of how PC some comedians have become. Just my opnion of course. :)

Watch it. Then watch it with the commentary on. It's like watching an entirely different show! (I've yet to watch it with the 'commentary on the commentary').

Same goes for the two Unrealtime shows, especially Live in Regents Park where Ross discovers where that stain on his trousers comes from!

A firm favourite is Eddie Izzard, Definate Article being my fave. All the classics are there, the queue of murderers at the petrol station, battery powered wizarRAB staRAB (and possibly the Roman funerals, where they are fired into trees).
