...the bed of the truck? Hello,
I'm heading for Akron, OH tomorrow. Temps have been below 8 degrees and are soon to below zero. I currently am using 10w30 in a 1500 chevy truck. I believe this is ok to use in that weather. But I would just like to double check*

Also, I have had people tell me to put 500lbs weight in the bed of my truck-(To weight it down, due to snow and ice on the road). Is this correct, and a neccesary thing to do?
`I dont know where to get 500lbs. I have no sand bags; and the best thing I can think of would be to fill up big plastic storage tubs with water.

Thanks~

That oil is going to get pretty heavy if the truck sits over night in -8 degree temperatures. Go with 5w20. Weight is a good idea. They sell sandbags at most hardware stores in cold states.

You'll be okay for a while with 10w30, but I'd go to 5w30 or 0w30 synthetic for hard use or extended periods at those temperatures.

Sand bags are available at local hardware stores. Don't use water in plastic tubs. Anything that spills will freeze in the truck bed, and giant icecubes in the truck bed can become dangerous missiles in a sudden stop. You can shovel dirt into trashbags or buy sacks of playground sand. 250-500 lbs sounds good.

What about tires? Are they all season or are they snow tires? Do you have chains if you need them?

Please drive carefully and have a merry Christmas.
