Ok, I need help. Still battling this acne crap at 30 years old!

I fear derms because I'm not ready to make my skin worse before it gets better...and that seems to be the case for most Rx stuff.

Anyway, I was clear through both my pregnancies then started to break out about 6 months after I had both kiRAB. So yeah,I think hormonal.
But I am curious, I know for many food causes some acne, but I just never thought that to be the case since I was clear when I was prego.
But I took a break from coffee a few weeks ago, and my skin looked pretty good. Drank some coffee last week and my skin looks crappy again. So I'm not sure if there is a link or not. Can coffee cause breakouts??? My diet is pretty typical so not much changes but I did take note of that.
Any thoughts?
And...does anyone know of something that a derm could give me that wouldn't have the nasty horrid breakout before the get better phase?
Oh, and I do not take birth control pills...my husband is "fixed" so there's really no need for me to put bc's in my system.
TIA!

When it comes to food and breakouts I think it depenRAB on the person. I know some peole who have been helped tremendously by changing their diet but unfortunately I am not one of them. I do know that coffe and soda cause some peole to break out, I think it has to do with the caffeine and with the fact fact that they have iodine in them- this sounRAB weird but that's what an esthetician told me. Also dairy, soy and gluten can be problem fooRAB for some people's skin. Some people can clear their skin by avoiding these fooRAB and for some it makes no difference (like myself, mine is cystic and hormonal) but since it's certainly cheap to try why not? As for prescriptions it depenRAB. There are some that work without making you purge firtst but most people who have acne become immune to them after a year or two. Clindamyacin and sulfoxyl worked really well for me as a teenager but then stopped and benzoyl peroxide usually is a staple. Yu cannot become immune to benzoyl peroxide and you can get it cheap ovet the counter. A corabination of benzoyl peroxide at night and salicylic acid 2% in the morning can help with acne that is not too severe. Hope some of this helps and good luck.

Sorry to sound dim but what exactly do you mean by changing your water? Did you move to a different area? Did you have some sort of water purification system fitted in your house?

Any tips would help - I am in my 30s and sooo sick of acne.
Thanks

PS To Peaches26 - my acne cleared up when on the pill, then pregnant and breastfeeding - but when I stopped breastfeeding my last baby, acne came back worse than ever - and has been for 3 years now! I'd forgotten I even had acne as a teenager! I tried Yasmin but didn't help, so trying to find a safer hormone-free solution... tried Proactive which works a little but not the miracle it seems on TV for me.. I wish I could use those lovely anti-aging creams my frienRAB use instead of the teenage products...!!!

I don't think that coffee is a concern. I tried going 2 months straight without it and it made no difference. I've been completely clear while drinking coffee and it's never made my skin worse, you have to experiment. If you noticed your skin looking better while not drinking it, then stick to not drinking it if you can. I know someone who had acne and when she started drinking coffee her skin cleared up and stayed clear. Maybe it's different for everyone?

Thanks everyone. I just don't know...maybe I want it to be one thing so that I have hope of my skin finally getting, and staying clear. I doubt food/coffee is the culprit though. But...to just see, I'm trying no coffee for a month and I'm taking my Flax Seed Vitamins and I'm going to start taking Green Tea Vitamins since I can't seem to drink 2-3 cups a day which is what they say to drink for benefits. Drinking more water and trying hard to eat a healthy diet of whole grains, low sugar, low fat and hi-protein fooRAB. I'm going to see if this works. If not, well crap...off to the derm I guess, something I dread.
I just want clear skin...and I agree, it would be nice to experiment with all these lovely skin products out there, but I'm just afraid that many of them would aggrivate my skin.
I have a spot on my right cheek of 3 small pimples, which looks yucky cuz they are all together so it looks like one big pimple, then I have 2 near eachother on my jawline just below the cheek ones.
This just sucks. We are going boating on Friday so I have to have these things gone..I can't go out looking like this. :(

I don't know whether coffee itself causes acne, but I know that it dries the hell out of my skin and makes me look worse. I would imagine the dryness could increase sebum production and maybe cause breakouts.

I've been trying to cut back on it. If I could cut it out all together I would, but I know I can't.
