Had a friend break hi coccyx ( tailbone) what do they do for this ? Is there anything or do they let it heal on its own ?

When I broke mine years ago, I had to simply tuff it out and sit on one of those donut pillows for months. Very painful I might add.

Thanks Pepper .. I did do research and yes thats all they can do for you.. They did say its very rare to need surgery . Bet his bumm's gonna be sore for a while .

My husband just broke his and the doc told him to buy a donut to sit on and wait wait wait. They will give him meRAB to get through the rough patch but basically have to wait out the rough patch. If it gets worse rather than better, an Xray might be a good idea just to make sure nothing else is going on.

Hey, really have your friend check into this because:

I broke mine when I was 18, doing a backflip off a high dive but landing bottom first. I sank to the bottom and my boyfriend had to pull me out. The pain was excrutiating.

I did as the doc said - sat on a donut pillow, yada yada.

Now, years later with all these back problems, I have had 2 manipulation therapists SWEAR that my tailbone is in the wrong place big time, and they both believe that if it had been correctly repositioned, I might not have had these back issues.

With it being in the wrong position, it pulls on the wrong muscles or does something strange.

Anyway, if I could go back, I would get extra opinions and make sure it doesn't need to be "put back". That wouldn't be a fun experience, but neither is years of back trouble because it wasn't, either.

Hi , and thanks for all the replies . I made a mistake its not his coccyx its the bone right above it.. Not sure what its called . But his Dr. said its fractured. I guess he's seeing a surgeon today some time .. He said it really hurts when he walks / sits and laugh's. This friend is one who always questioned me about my pain and what I can or can't do .. Guess he sort of knows now eh ?

I know you don't want your friend to suffer but I have to admit, you had to have a sly grin on your face at some point thinking, uhuh, tell me how I feel now buddy!

I'm glad he went to the doc and got checked out. Hope his surgery is a successful one!

Sincerely,
Lisa
