Hi,

I am posting here because I am very concerned, I do not know if anybody knows anything about coccydynia, but it is coccyx pain or tail bone pain.

I will start at the beggining, a minimum of 8-9 months ago, I was having discomfort in the tail bone area after prolonged sitting at my computer, (only when sitting though) for example, first thing in the morning, I could sit at my PC without much issue but as the day went on, I could sit less and less at my PC without pain, just to mention I have had no trauma to the tailbone this has something that has come on VERY slowely, possibly even more than 12 months ago, it was gradual from what I thought was constant sitting at my PC and wriggling about uncomfortably in my chair.

I just assumed it was a bit of brusing or whatever from sitting for so many hours at my PC with not GREAT posture, so I simply continued to sit at my PC for half the day without paying much attention, still, over 8 months down the line and it has only got worse, when I sit for a period of time, I start to feel the tailbone pain, the pain can be on a 1-10 scale, upto about a 7 or 8, so its pretty painful.

when doing anything other than sitting, like running or lifting, pain is 0-2 (mostly 0 with a bit of 1) so nothing really noticable.

I understand coccydynia can be caused by a serious underlying illness, may I ask for some opinions? as I am worrying myself into the ground.

I also have coccydynia and I am SO sorry that you're suffering with this, too. It really stinks. I have been having x-ray guided steroid injections....some more successful than others. Now I have bursitis in my hip from sitting crooked all the time! So, now more injections in the hip. Anyway, I worried myself to death about the same concern you're having and I still wish they would order an MRI, but I'm finally convinced it truly is just a weird thing that happens to some of us. My tailbone is subluxated (I think I'm saying that right) and because I've had so many x-rays and x-ray guided injections, I'm finally convinced there's not a massive tumor in there or anything. Have you been to the doctor about this and been examined? What did your x-rays show? Oh, and my tailbone pain came on out of nowhere, slowly, just like yours. No trauma, two years after the birth of my daughter. It started slowly and got up to an 8 or 9 pain wise, just like you. Anyway, I don't know if this helped much but I hope to hear back about your doc visit. Oh, and do you sit on a cushion? I am so sick of that after this long, but it really does help in hard chairs. I find that on soft chairs and in the car, the cushion makes it worse for me.
