Coby Tablet with Android 2.1 OS access Applications?

I am looking into getting a Coby 7inch tablet with the Android 2.1 OS. It does not say that it has access to all the applications that can be downloaded. Is it automatic that with android 2.1 OS you get access to the 1000s applications? I want to use the e-reader application. Also does anybody know if the e-reader application allows for a black background and white lettering?
