CO% and CO# in blood test

Hi! Sorry if this the wrong forum, but I didn't find a more appropriate one.. I did a blood test some months ago, and until now I hadn't noticed two values that are quite off the normal ranges.

CO% 6.2 - Normal range 0.9 - 2.9
CO# 0.5 - Normal range 0.0 - 0.2

I don't know if the doctor has noticed this - it's in very very small letters in the first page. She said I'm 'fine'; something I totally disagree with, since in the summer my vision gets really blurry, I have insomnias and my anxiety goes sky high. Everything else in my blood test is fine, though.

What's CO% / CO#? Carbon monoxide? I'm 17 male by the way! Thanks

I have no medical experience or training, but your numbers are confusing to me and should have been noticed by your doctor, and at least questioned.

The CO% of 6.2, according to what I have read, should cause anything from a Frontal Headache to Dizziness, Nausea, or Convulsions.

Are you running heaters at home? Have you been breathing a lot of smoke, or auto exhaust fumes? How about barbecues?

Can you think of a reason for such unusual readings?

CO is carbon monoxide, it's part of an electrolyte panel. Off electrolytes could be due to lung problems, breathing difficulty, retaining/losing fluid or metabolic (thyroid, adrenal glands, etc) trouble.

Several medications can increase CO too; steroids, hydrocortisone, diuretics, barbiturates, and street drugs.

If your doc felt your numbers were way off, she would order another blood test called a Blood Gas test, this is taken from an artery instead of a vein and can check to make sure your lungs are working up to speed getting rid of excess CO.

Call your doc's office and ask what those numbers mean, the nurse can probably tell you, you may not even need to speak to the doc directly.

As I've mentioned, the CO result is in very small letters in the first page, maybe she didn't even notice it at all, I can't know. It was along some other values, NC, LY, MO, BA, if that helps at all.

I really can't find any reason for those readings, and I also can't find any reason for my blurry vision, ringing ears (sometimes) and insomnias. A big drop in temperature usually makes my vision much better. (I live in Greece) My doctor says 'it's all in your mind, you are fine'... >.<

I'm not on any drugs, I don't smoke. I've also done a thyroid test which came OK.

Most of the doctors of this world should have gotten in another profession better suited to their talents, such as morticians.

She didn't notice because she probably didn't even look!

I don't know what those initials mean. Perhaps someone else .....?

You should tell her that her bill is all in her head, and not pay her for her worthless, harmful diagnosis.

You say that, in the summer your vision gets really blurry, you have insomnias and your anxiety goes sky high. If it weren't for the CO% readings, I would suggest that you have summer pollen allergies, which can cause such symptoms.

Do you only have those symptoms in the Summer? And... during the Summer, are there any times when you don't have those symptoms?

I kinda rushed my answer to you. Your blood test was a couple of months ago. I would assume that, since then, your health got much better and you no long suffer from those symptoms. Is this correct?

Well, during the winter I'm not feeling totally OK all the time, but I'm *definitely* quite better.

Not really. >.< My sleep is much, much better but my vision is still very bad, especially on hot days. A drop in temperature below 15C has a huge improvement in my vision...

My skin is also very affected, usually goes hand in hand to how good my vision is.

Thanks for the replies!
