Cloverfield ending... What is that thing that falls into water?

Notice at the end of Cloverfield. At the beach scene, that boat on the left of the screen. Right beside the boat, in the background there is something black that falls from the sky into the ocean. And Also that video was taken 1 month BEFORE the monster attack.. Mabye its some sort of egg or something?
