Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs trailer online

If I recall, the children's book was about an old man who always predicted the weather accurately until he one day predicts that it would be "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs". And everyone's surprised when he turns out to be right.

The movie's definitely taking a different approach.

Love the character designs. Very cartoony, very simple and oddly adorable. The Jello bit got a big ol' chuckle from me too - looks like a fun flick. Sony Pictures Animation usually is good for a moderately entertaining and visually good looking animated flick.

...at least when it's theatrically produced (none of that DTV Open Season 2 crap).

Actually, I read the book, and it's actually about a town where food rains from the sky three times a day. And when huge floods and storms come, they have to find a solution. You're thinking about something else.

Looks like a decent movie, the jello part also made me chuckle. Not sure if I'll watch it in theaters, but I'll definitely try to get it on DVD a few months later.

I read the book, but it's kind of...childish. A town that gets food as weather? No thanks. I don't have high hopes for this film.

Eh, I'll probably wait for this one to come to cable. It's good to see an animated movie centering on humans for a change, but that's about it.

I have to admit, I like the character designs, and the cast looks great (Anna Faris, Bruce Campbell, heck, even Mr. T is in it), but it won't interest me much.

Oh, this is just great.
Hollywood takes a perfectly good childrens book then ruins it with a CGI film.
Seriously, if I were them, I'd leave the book alone. We have enough movies-based-on-books. Sheesh.

And it seems its not going to follow the book 100% because in the movie, the food-weather is caused by an inventor.

In the book, it was just a tale the grandfather was telling his kids.

When I read the book, I actually thought the grandfather was a former inhabitant of the town, and was a kid when all of that stuff happened. Guess I was wrong.

When I first heard that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was going to be made into an animated movie, I was pleasantly surprised; at first, it seemed like too simple a concept to convert to a feature film, so I wondered what they were going to fill up the plot with. And now. . . I kind of see. So the plot involves a screwball inventor who comes up with a way to convert plain water into ready-made food, and that's what causes food to rain from the sky?

. . . Sorry, that big crashing sound you just heard was my suspension of disbelief flying out the window and dive-bombing the ground.

Seriously, is that the best they could come up with? The story of Chewandswallow was just supposed to be a tall tale told to two kids by their grandfather, not a slapstick comedy about a bumbling inventor. Nothing in the trailer looked the least bit funny, and the animation style put me off as well. Overall, I was hoping they'd do more justice to the book, which was one of my favorites as a child.

I've never even heard of the book before now, so sorry if I don't have a suitable amount of hate for the resulting movie. ^_^;

Gotta admit, I cracked up at that rat-bird's "Squeaker-squeaker-SQEAK!" And did one guy take off his beard? Didn't like how the kids at the end sounded so...not like real kids. Everything else seemed decent to me.
