"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" Talkback (Spoilers)

What i find fascinating here is that the film is done by the same duo that brought us the brilliant but cancelled (due to to butthurt indians) "Clone High" series, It amazes me that the two didn't get scarred from it

Fun movie. Much like Surf's Up, I didn't love it, and I don't know about it being touted as "SLEEPER ANIMATED HIT OF THE YEAR" by some reviewers, but I laughed a lot and really liked the character design (Not quite Pixar-style, but not ugly uncanny valley or groteque) and fantastic animation that totally embraced the manic ridiculousness.

I especially loved Steve the monkey, though his role was small. When I heard that there was a talking monkey voiced by Neil Patrick Harris, I expected a cliche wisecracking sidekick, but they made him more like a real monkey that just happens to be able to spout one-word sentences. Except for the obligatory poop joke (Though that was thankfully the only joke like that in the movie), all his bits were gold.

And yes, the snowball fight was the most hilarious bit of the film.

You know, I'll never understand why he compares CGI movies to classic cartoons: they're two completely different things. In any case, it almost seems like he hates any animation that isn't made by Warner Brothers (except Tiny Toons and Animaniacs; I'll never know why).

And yes, I believe alot of his followers are blind. (No offense, but) it seems like they, along with John K himself are a bit too narrow-minded. But hey, that's just me.

In any case, I really want to see the movie. :p

Out of all the films released by Sony Pictures Animation, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is their best effort so far and is likely going to be their biggest hit. The film is funny with jokes that appeal to kids and adults and the animation is very good especially the food and while not totally faithfully to the book, they did a great job developing a story that worked on screen, Best characters had to be Steve the Monkey, Earl and Flint.

If The Smurfs and Hotel Translyvania are half as good as Cloudy then SPA is going to have more successes.

I saw this movie on opening weekend. I wasn't expecting much and I went in with low expectations. After all, what can you expect from yet another CGI movie, written by the guys from 'Clone High' (which I found mostly unfunny and overrated, frankly) and based on a classic book?

Well, had I not seen 'Ponyo' several weeks before -or 'Up', for that matter-, this movie would have been my #1 favorite animated film this year. It snugly sits at #3.

There were a few plotholes that I didn't quite understand, like
the food gaining sentience and creating the meatball around the machine
but overall it was a very endearing movie that had a lot of heart and a lot of humor. Everything -and every one in the flick- was likeable and much like 'Ponyo', I was smiling throughout the entire movie. It was that good, IMHO. Mr. T totes stole the entire show every time he showed up and Bruce Campbell was suitably creepy in ways I can't really describe. Anna Faris was kind of annoying at first, but I really liked Sam by the end of the movie.

I think this is probably the first movie in recent memory where I want a sequel. And FWIW, there actually was a sequel released for the original book about 9 years ago. ('Pickles to Pittsburgh', I think was the title) So there is precedent for a second movie.

I just hope that if they do make a sequel -and you know they will in a year or two-, it has as much heart, soul and humor as this one.
