Closer

Watched this film today and was very impressed.

It is very raw and benefits from a great director and cast who manage to pull off the difficult task of bringing this stage play to the big screen.
Natalie Portman is great in her first proper adult role and even Julia Roberts excels.
I am glad to see London on screen as I sometimes feel films set in bland city lanRABcapes become bland themselves.

I hope it is able to win some more awarRAB in the coming weeks. I am not usually a fan of awarRAB but hopefully it will encourage more films like this to be made
Well done:)

Right, so that's one "go and see it" and one "avoid at all costs"!

Anyone else able to add to the debate? I want to know whether or not to see this film!

Bozz

I wouldn't have chosen to see this but I arrived too late to see team america which is what I wanted to see.(my own mistake I got the times wrong) Not my only mistake of the day............ Closer was rubbish, there was no point to the story at all it just droned on and on.
pointless and one to avoid.

mind you clive owen could take me home any time...yum

saw it last night. Wasn't great to be honest. Never realised how poor an actor jude law is, yeah he's pretty but he really can't act. As for Clive Owen, however, he was fab. First film i've seen with him in and thought he was really good. Very, very nice to look at too.

I went to see this last night and can't stop thinking about it. I really, really enjoyed it. I'd be inclined to say it may appeal more to a female audience, but not necessarily.

It's very honest and hard-hitting. I felt it had "sort of" a woody allen feel about it. Only as much as I felt you were simply getting a view into these peoples real lives as opposed to an "acted" movie (if you know what I mean).

It felt to me a bit like a roller-coaster ride of emotions, and left me feeling quite heart sore.

Personally, I think Natalie Portman should receive the Oscar for supporting actress. I've seen her in a couple of movies, but the scene in Closer where she's crying into Jude Law's chest and asks him to make her a cup of tea (I won't go into more detail because I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet) was where I thought to myself "wow, this girl can really act".

That is just my humble opinion. Either way, whether you end up loving it or hating it, I truly believe it is a move worth watching.

Sorry, but this was just an emotionally disjointed narrative of 4 morally-bankrupt characters. Nothing clever, nothing engaging. Invest your emotions in Ladder 49, you'll be much more rewarded.

oh my god ladder 49 is DIRE. people were laughing at the dialogue in the cinema

'when something bad happens we just get on with it, we DON'T fight each other' god it was awful

they weren't morally bankrupt - it was the mosta accurate depiction of the way people behave ive seen in a long time.

and jude was v good - he was playing a really unsympathetic character and he did it brilliantly

Someone explain to me the logical jump from the two male characters' anonymous Internet mutual sex chat session and Anna's ability to identify both parties immediately?

I saw it over the weekend and really really liked it. I went to see it with my boyfriend and he didn't think much of it at all. Different strokes and all that. What I liked so much about it was that I kept thinking about it for a long time after I saw it and the fact that it really captured how much people who claim to love someone can really hurt this person they love.

i enjoyed it very much, not at all what i expected, i expected 'acting' but its not acting if you know what i mean, it is soo sexually charged and quite messed up, more realistic i thought

If you like your film's action packed then this probably isn't for you as the story plays out quite slowly, with very little happening, but personally I loved it. I think all 4 actors but in superb performances. They actually do make you start to identify with their characters, and feel for them, even when they are so unlikeable.
