Closer - Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Clive Owen, Julia Roberts

I'm dying to see this movie. I saw the trailer online and I'm obsessed now. Jude+Natalie=pretty! Plus that Clive Owen ain't too bad-looking either, and I've always liked Julia Roberts.

I really wanted to see it and now that I have... I kinda liked it. Still analyzing it in my head. But at the end, I didn't feel good for any of the characters, though I don't think that was the intent of the story.

I got a little confused in the chronology of the storytelling - sometimes I wasn't sure if what was happening was a flashback or currently happening.

I agree with your comment on Natalie Portman, *Sweetie*. However, I have to say that with her acting, I never think of her previous roles. My boyfriend just sees the little girl from The Professional. I felt it was true when Larry said to Anna, "You're a woman. She's a girl." Alice was the character I cared about the most, probably because I felt her vulnerability.

Ugh... what's the rule on discussing details from this movie?

Hey I've never seen this thread before, wow a little time difference between the last two posts

I've seen it twice, but I've never seen how all start :(, and must agree with variuous the strip club scene it's excelent, Natalie does a great job, love when she is talking with larry and he keeps giving her money , asking and expecting to hear the truth.

and the end! perfect, It took me a minutes to figure that ALice wasn't the name of Natalie's character

I love everything about this movie. Unfortunately the second tiem around I saw it when my mom was around. She wasn't very amused, and I was very embarrassed. But honestly? It is pretty much perfect, especially the ending. :sigh:

Damien Rice - The Blower's Daughter

I fell in love with that song a few years ago when it was in a Dawson's Creek episode.

Years later, I'm replying.

Dan loved himself too much to care for either Anna or Alice (or Ruth). He wanted them based on his own needs at the time. However, he was too needy to let himself be alone, even if he didn't truly love his girl at the time.

Exactly. There's an exchange that backs up this point. There's a line in the trailer that wasn't in the movie... Anna says to Dan, "Love bores you," and he replies, "No. It dissapoints me."

Which is stupid since he's always the one that screws up his relationships, like the above post suggests.

An intriguing story of passion, drama, love, and abandonment involving two couples, which only gets more complicated when the man from the first couple gets acquainted with the woman from the second coupling.

It's pretty much about sex and affairs. It stars Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Natalie Portman, and Clive Owen.

I'm really really excited about this movie too...maybe cuz I've always been a big Natalie/Jude shipper in the fact that I've been dying to see them in a movie together. They were the best thing about Cold Mountain and that cute moment that starts out the trailer was adorable...but I can't believe that Jude's character would cheat on her with Julia Roberts...uh, that's craziness to me...Natalie is just so beautiful and cool...anyways, I think everybody sounds so great in this movie (minus Julia Roberts cuz she doesn't fit like everybody else - would have rather had Cate Blanchett in the role.)

And that song by Damien Rice, The Blower's Daughter - I love it!

Love,
Cindy

Hey!

Saw the movie too and I liked it ( can one really use the word like for such a movie?...). Very dark but very interesting psychologically.

One question: do you know the singer and title of the song at the beginning and the end... the one that says "can't take my eyes off of you" etc...? I love it! I liked the music in that movie...

Edited to agree with Sasha: loved that scene!!!!

Um...this sounds familiar but I can't bring it to mind. I haven't seen it, but I can't recall it, either - I'll go look it up...

I saw this movie yesterday, and was :lmao: during the cybersex scene between Clive and Jude's characters.

I didn't see a thread for this movie, so I thought I'd start one.

I saw Closer last night with my boyfriend. I'm still not really sure what to think of it. It was good, I guess. Very... dark, in a way. It wasn't what I was expecting. But I enjoyed it. And my boyfriend LOVED it. I thought the acting was great... especially Natalie Portman. This was not a role I'd ever think to see her in.

What did you guys think? :)
