Clonazepam over a long period of time?

I've had anxiety issues for a while, finally saw a doctor about it about 3 years ago. I've been taking 1mg of clonazepam 3 times daily for about 2 years now, and it has really, REALLY helped me more than any of the other drugs I tried.

Lately though I feel like it's not working the same. I'm more nervous and uncomfortable for no reason like I was before, almost like I didn't take any. I understand I have probably built up somewhat of a tolerance to the drug after being on it so long, so I tried taking a little extra, but it didn't seem to help any.

I'm wondering if clonazepam is something people are normally on for years at a time? Can it just stop working after a while? Maybe I need to try a different dose, or is it time to find another drug? Obviously I have to talk to my doctor about this, but I won't be seeing him for about another 2 months.

Would you consider 1mg/3 times daily to be a small/medium dose?
