Background info first----We have been trying to conceive for a year. I went to a fertility specialist before Christmas. They did a pelvic exam and ultrasound and found that I have a fibroid outside of my uterus so they did not think that it was the cause of me not getting pregnant. She did a 21 day labwork up and discovered that my progesterone levels were at 8 instead of being between 10-20 at that time. She said she would like to start me on Clomid.Well, I picked up my Clomid at the pharmacy today and will wait for my period to start to begin on day 3 of my cycle. I will return at day 21 of my next cycle to check progesterone levels again.I know I will get answers to talk to my doc which I will do but I cannot go through the weekend wondering so I thought I would ask a few things.. Question #1- I only have 5 pills... there are 3 refills.. I assume I go back and get 5 more but when do I do that? When do I take the next pills?Question #2- Has anyone had low progesterone levels and this worked to help them get pregnant? If so, how long does it take?Question #3- When should we have sex while on Clomid to best help conceive?Question #4- I keep reading where people say that they go in while on clomid to see if their follicles are growing- my doc said nothing about this, is that standard?Any help and support would be greatly appreciated since I am so new at this. Thanks in advance!!

dont know much about the clomid. but question number 3 my obgyn said u should have sex every other day to that it gives sperm time to build back up have sex 13 days after from when u first started your period. also she should take a multi vitamin 6 months before trying to get pregnant ask for a prenatal vitamin. i have been ttc and no luck yet. Good luck to you!

You only take 5 pills per cycle (ie 1st cycle, 5 pills, one a day from day3-7). If a pregnancy occurs in that cycle, you don't need the refills :). It just means she's willing to try clomid for 3 cycles. It's pretty standard to get minimal monitoring, just a cd21 progesterone test. If you end up needing further treatment, i think monitoring will be increased.

First I would like to wish you lots of luck with trying to concieve. Question 1: 5 pills is a normal script dispension. You were probably adviced to take 1 pill each day. You will pick up the next 5 pills for next month to take the same way that you did this month.Question 2: Sex should be happen frequently with or with clomid during your ovulation cycle...typical day 12 thru 14 after the first day of you menstrual cycle. You may want to buy an ovulation predictor kit to check for to see when you are ovulating...and then bed dance to increase your chances.Question 3: The clomid is used to increase the size of your follicles, but fertilization of those follicles can only happen during ovulationQuestion 4: Yes, the doctor does sometimes bring you in for an ultrasound to check the sizes of your follicles, but in most cases this is done for assisted reproductions like IUI, IVF treatments. Not to say, they won't do it for someone that is still trying to back babies without these treatments, but it is not really necessary. The ultrasound is to check the sizes of the follicles so that the doctor can tell you when to take the HCG injection to release the follicles.I did use Clomid. I was on it for 2 rounds and with the help of an IUI procedure I was blessed with twins (boy/girl). It does work for some, and of others they don't get that much of a result from it. Be patient and don't loose hope. Also, do not get caught up in the baby making process to the point of loosing romance and love for your hubby. Remeber love and romance is what is bringing you both to the point of wanting a baby. Good luck and keep us all posted.

1. The refills are for future cycles. I wouldn't get the prescription filled until you know for sure that you are not pregnant. After / if you start your period, get it filled that way you don't waste money if you get pregnant.2. Your low progesterone level is an indication of not ovulating. I took Clomid for 5 months and only ovulated 1 time (the first month on the meds). My dr. increased my dose every month that I did not ovulate. I started at 50mg and ended up taking 200mg (max dose). After unsuccess with Clomid, my dr. prescribed Leterzole / Femara. I took it for 3 or 4 months and got pregnant. Leterzole has been used for years to treat breast cancer and doctors have started using it to induce ovulation fairly recently. If Clomid doesn't work for you, you might want to ask your dr. about this other med. It worked great for me and now I'm expecting a little boy in May.3. You can try using ovulation predictor kits or track your basal body temperature (BBT) to help you know when you ovulate. Many people just have sex around day 14, but everyone doesn't ovulate then and it can also change from month to month. If you decide to start taking your BBT, try fertilityfriend.com. It is a great website to help track everything. You can use the free membership (that is what I did), but if you purchase a subscription, it will tell you when your most fertile time is. If you don't decide to try either of these, I would probably start having sex around day 10 and don't stop until day 22 or so. Every other day during this time should be fine. Doctors usually recommend you don't have sex every day.4. My dr. didn't check my folicles. I think they mostly just do that when you are combining Clomid with IUI.Best wishes and try to relax through this process. I tried for a year and a half, so I know how stressful it can be. I ended up getting pregnant the first month after I gave up trying on my own an turned it over to God.

1) You are to take your 5 pills this month. If you don't get pregnant this month, you get a refill and do it again.2) Yes, I had low progesterone, but Clomid quit working for me in cycle #4. I had to switch to Femara. I got pregnant on cycle #1 with Femara.3) They suggest that you use OPK's to test for your fertile time, so you can time your sex better for when you are fertile. I normally ovulated on cycle day 15, but with the Clomid, I ovulated later, like day 22 or 23, so beware that Clomid can delay ovulation.4) I never went in to have my follicles checked. I don't know if it is standard, but they never asked me to come in, and since I was paying out of pocket, I never suggested it.Good luck!! Baby dust to us all!
