i have aquarium sand for my tank because it used to be a saltwater set-up. i saw someone cleaning their tank using a siphon connected to a pump and homemade sponge filter. siphon gets sucked by the pump and goes out and through a homemade sponge filter. im wondering if i used that method, will it damage my pump ? sand might get sucked into it. i have powerheads that i always keep replacing because i plug it into the extention cord and messes up. don't want to take a risk again
