I currently teach year 13 pupils at high-performing private special school that specializes in teaching students with mixed degrees of learning disabilities, we have a very good extra curriculum activities program which enables our students to experience many life skills.

Since I'm in charge of the activities budget I thought it might be beneficial for my year 13 class to experience and learn about the Chernobyl disaster by learning first hand about it (my students learn best that way) I'm planning a three day camping trip to the Ukraine and hopefully stopping in the red forest close to the reactor 5 where the accident happened. Would I allowed to leave the year 13's there in charge of adults with mild learning disabilities and essential amenities for the for the duration of the trip while I visit family close by. All in all I think its going to be a very enjoyable trip for my students
My students will not mind it being dangerous.
I want them to experience the effects radiation poisoning and how it effects blood cells.

Although it's while ago now, there is still radiation in the area.

I think it will be a most interesting trip, but check with the education authority first that what you are about to do is OK and safe as you will be the Responsible Person.

Please don't allow your wishes to visit your family override the childrens' safety.

I do not believe that adults with mild learning disabilities can be considered legally responsible. At least not in a country that will be foreign to them. For example: What training do these people have? Safety? First Aid? How would they react in an emergency situation?

If you consider yourself a responsible person, then BE RESPONSIBLE and reconsider your options for a school trip.
