Civilization IV won't download 1.74 patch!!!?

So I have reinstalled this game a few times, and yet it won't download the 1.74 patch. So I decided to do it externally (not pressing it from the game) and an error pops up saying "No Version of the Game detected", but the game was installed. If it helps, I brought the game and downloaded it from Gamestop. Please help me!!!!
