Citroen xsara picasso 52 reg. Throttle problem?

I have a 52 reg xsara picasso which has a problem with the throttle assembly. Firstly, the throttle on the 52 plate's still had a throttle cable rather than the ECU type. My problem is a problem of two halves.

It origionated as a pedal assembly that had collapsed. I.e. the mount that holds the pedal
became weak and eventually snapped. The AA guy had it welded by a local garage and we were off and away again, eventaully though the mount became weak again and snapped again. Before snapping the weakening on the mount caused the pedal assembly to become closer to the floor of the car and resulting in less possible travel of the pedal, causing less power due to less revs being able to be obtained.

A secondary problem which i beleive to be the cause of the first is that the throttle sticks open. When you push the pedal all the way in and release it the engine remains at full revs with plenty of slack in the cable at the back of the pedal.

I changed the pedal assemble for another in mint condition from a second had car thinking that this would solve one half leaving me just the sticking accelerator to solve but within a month this pedal assembly is now also on the floor leaving me with again, very little travel to accelerate with.

Does anyone have any idea's what I may be looking at?

Yours in hope
