Citroen C1 vs. Smart Car vs. Chevrolet Matiz?

I need a small, no-frills runabout that uses as little fuel as possible. I've got £9k to spend on something brand new.

I know that of the three cars listed above none have enjoyed spotless reviews, but bear in mind my requirements and please recommend one of the three?

I'm in the UK too, if you were wondering!

JG is correct. the huge cost of running a car is depreciation, and the next is probably insurance, then servicing. So long as a car does over 35 to the gallon that's fine by me.

of the above, I would choose the C1. Not in red.
