Cineworld policy on Food & Drink

Two of the Cineworld cinemas I go to have recently put up notices banning brought-in food (and one even bans drinks). Two others (the ones in the West End) are okay.

Is this happening elsewhere in the country?

Is it legal/fair?

Is it just me or is this really mean?

To be honest I don't see why people need food during a film anyway.

If I get food I make sure I get there early, get my nachos or ice-cream or whatever, and have them finished before the film starts. I like to concentrate on what I've paid to see ;)

complete joke innit. they're just trying to bump up their confection revenue, whereas i doubt they save anything on cleaners because they have to pay for bouncers.

no doubt odeon and all the rest will follow suit

As a former Cineworld employee, I can confirm that cinemas make more money from concessions than from the ticket sales.

As for bringing food and drink in, I usually hide them in my coat. Gets a bit difficult in the summer though...

I always assumed you weren't aloud to take your own food and drink in so I normally would just have a bottle of water and some sweets in my handbag. The prices of food/drinks at the refreshment stand are ridiculous.

Once mind a man and woman in front of us were eating a take away curry - I kid you not. At first me and my sister thought it was funny but then we had to watch the whole film having hunger pangs.

At the Lounge in LeeRAB (think it has closed down now) you could take alcohol in. Me and my mate used to get a bottle of vino from the bar (not too expensive) - lovely.

So your telling me that for the last 20 or so years, I have been wasting my time, breaking my neck to hide food and drink when going into the cinema?

I can never believe that people are prepared to pay

same here, i hate the rule and find it nasty cos even if i forgot a drink, i would never buy one from a cinema. the popcorn is never hot and tastes like its been there for a week.

Can't blame Cinemas for doing this. I guess it's in there interests to make you buy their own food and drink rather than bring your own.

The only thing I ever buy when I go to the cinema is a drink.
