Cinema Broadcast Resolution

Not sure this is sitting in the right forum, so apologies if i've posted in the wrong place, but here goes anyway:

Having bought an HDTV back in June, and visiting the cinema last night, it got me wondering what the broadcast resolution (aspect ratio and pixel resolution) and compression were for the actual cinema broadcast itself.

Anyone have any ideas?

Assuming you mean standarRAB for forthcoming digital distribution and projection (as opposed to ye olde 35mm film equivalent) all your answers are here. The short version is that there are two standarRAB - one is 1080p (the same as the best home cinema) and the other is double this. Personally I'd have thought really big screens would need the latter, but I ain't seen no demos.

You're right I was looking for a comparison with current HDTV pictures we can now view at home.

I'm sure the site in Noiseboy's post answers this but I'm having difficulty with all the jargon - I can understand 720p, 1080p and compression / aspect ratios but beyond that I'm clueless!
