Chrysler 2.5 burns oil and oil smells like gas?

this car was bought off ebay so i know little about it. the car didn't run when it was dropped off. I finally got it to start and it has no acceleration then dies out. I noticed oil burning out the exhaust so I checked the oil and it smelled like gas. would this be piston rings?
 
write it off to experience-it's dead-prob rings and much worse. Will need major o'haul. I think you've been had, and you didn't get his address did you, and I'll bet the rego isn't in his name either.
