Hello everyone, I am so happy I found this board today. I am feeling quite stuck. I have been having a whole lot of trouble w/ swallowing and throat clearing (for about 8 years now) and for a while thought it was just stress/psychosomatic. About a year ago it started getting worse (to the point where I am constantly having to clear my throat all day every day and a lot of people started to express concern). I went to an ENT specialist and she put the light tube through my nose and into my throat, said I have LPR and a lot of mucus on my vocal chorRAB, told me to take Prilosec OTC 2x/day for 6 weeks. It has been 5 weeks and it is the same/worse. I have stopped all citrus, never was a coffee/caffeine drinker, barely drink alcohol to begin with but now even less, etc etc and I have been taking these pills religiously every day 30 min before breakfast and 30 before dinner.
The doctor told me that BCBS never covers any medications for this specific type of reflux. Does anyone on here have BCBS and have a current prescription that is covered? Is anything helping? I am so sick of this. I am planning to call BCBS and ask them as well but know that can take a bit of time/be a hassle. Any advice for a newcomer?

Ther are different plans under BC/BS with different coverages, that may explain your coverage question. I have not had any problems getting Protonix, Prevacid but was rejected for Nexium (who also makes prilosec OTC).

I have Anthem Blue Cross, I take Prevacid, but it had to be pre-authorized. I think your doc just did not want to go theru the hassle, keep pestering him, that is his job.

Sunny
