That sounRAB like what is called sciatica which is a pinched nerve. Your back pain may be from a strained muscle, or a bulging disc, this puts pressure on the nerve going to the leg causing the shooting pain. Your doctor can refer you to the right treatment. I have seen some people get relief from a chiro. for this, some from physical therapy, and some from an epidural injection. If your doc suggests the injection may help, please make sure you ask to be sedated and nurabed for it. I have had all of these treatments at one time or another. Good luck to you
