Hi i would be very grateful for any advise or suggestions: I am 23 years old and have had chronic lower back/hip pain for around 12 years now and i still haven't got a diagnosis. I have had every scan/xrays/treatments there is going, but everyone single one has shown nothing that is abnormal. The pain is mainly on my lower back, hip and groin area but i also get pain in my neck, have swollen knees and ankles. (My pain is very tender especially all over my buttock area which is unbearable to even touch) I have tried most pain killers and i am now taking morphine in tablet form and also liquid morphine, and at such a young age i worry how long i will have to go on without an answer and taking such strong prescribed drugs. I have seen so many specialists and doctors, one that recently told me he had done everything he could and there wasn't anything else he could do and to "just get on with my life!" (Which obviously i am, or i wouldn't be here today! I try and exercise daily and go swimming when i can) However I am really depressed and i need an answer, i need to know what my future holRAB, i can't be on morphine all my life and not know why... even if there isn't a cure, i just need a diagnosis. I'm always looking for suggestions to go back to my doctor and ask about to try and find a diagnosis or some kind of an answer. Please Please help me!!??

Have you seen a rheumatologist? They are usually pretty good at the kind of symptoms you are having as far as putting it all together for a diagnosis. While it seems to me that folks in the UK have a hard time getting medical care, it also seems that the doctors there are much more likely to prescribe opioiRAB for pain than they are here. However, hiding the pain isn't the answer as you well know.

I can only wish you good luck and ask you to stay in touch.

I think I may have answered this same question on another board, so I apologize if this is duplicate. A Rheumatologist is a great place to seek help. They don't center on one problem but the constellation of symptoms.

Hi all,

Thank-you sooo much for taking the time to read my post and actually post something back to me, it means a lot that people are willing to take time to suggest things to me!!

I don't actually think i have seen Rheumatologist, it doesn't seem to ring a bell which is great and hopefully a new path to go down!! I know i have been to see somebody to rule out aurthiritus, and i have seen different specialists for one percific thing i.e hip specialist for hips only, but haven't seen somebody that will look at everything such as joint and diseases together.

It is definatley something i am going to take up with my doctor -when i find a new one that is :( my last doctor gave up all hope on me like majority of doctors have with me! They all seem to think that i should stop trying to find out whats wrong with me and just accept it....Some how i can't do this yet, not until i know i have ticked every single box there is to tick! I can't be in agony and be on morpihine for the rest of my life without even knowing why!!!

Somebody suggested that i might have "Lyme disease" ? Does anybody have or know of this and would you think that this may be a possiblity for me?

Thanks again for your suggestions, please do keep them coming and post anything at all that you may think will help.

Thanks to all!!

Kind RegarRAB x

I don't know much about it but I did read an article not long ago... Have you ever had a "bulls eye" type rash?
There are tests for it but make sure your Dr is serious about the diagnosis because I think there is more than one test...
I have food allergies... Had had major problems for 12 years. Always been allergic to Wheat Gluten & Starch but didn't realize I was gluten intolerant. Since going on the diet I am slowly recovering... It's amazing the problems it has caused...
I wish you the best of luck! Keep us updated!
