chrome and other browsers won't load facebook and other sites?

Im currently using google chrome, and several pages, are not loading, including yahoo which makes the internet difficult to use. The page takes a long time to open (facebook), and then it opens as a plain white page with black writing and says 'An error occured, please try again'. Please help!
