Christians, wouldn't you agree that Abe Lincoln was one of the greatest U.S presidents?

Isn't it funny how Americans make a candidates religion one of the biggest issues in a campaign even though one of our greatest presidents wasn't even a member of a church? Why has religion been able to blend itself into politics?
What I'm saying is, modern America would never elect a president who said that he wasn't a member of any church and that he was skeptical of organized religion. If we had that frame of mind back then, slavery wouldn't have been abolished when it was.

Lincoln was a Christian and declared a national day of fasting and prayer SEVERAL TIMES. Chech out the history books....and referred to God often in his day of prayer proclaimation.

"...I know that the Lord is always on the side of the right. But it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I and this nation should be on the Lord's side." The Inner Life of Abraham Lincoln: Six Months at the White House by Francis B. Carpenter (Lincoln, Nebraska, University of Nebraska Press, 1995), p. 282.
