Christians; on what criteria do you cherry-pick the bible?

If you discard the nasty bits of the bible, how do you decide which parts stay and which parts go?
How much of the old do you keep, and how much do you throw out?
This is assuming you've read the bible, and as a modern human being recognise that it's not all bright and colourful.
If you have read the whole bible cover to cover, and agree with every verse, then say so.
Please be honest.
If you say metaphor, who are you to decide what is metaphorical, and what is literal?
Um, no, Jesus didn't end the old; according to Jesus, the old still applies.
Matthew 5: 17-18
The question is serious, and not meant to be offensive.
