Christians, Jesus demanded good works as a condition of eternal life (Matt

25:31-45). Was he kidding? This is the judging of the "sheep" and "goats". If they helped "the least of these my brethren", eternal live awaited. If they did not help them, they received eternal punishment. Paul agrees that we are saved "unto good works" (Eph 2:10); James chimes in, "I'll show you my faith by my works" (James 2:18) and "faith without works is dead" (James 2: 20 AND 26 - a double witness). How can works NOT be a factor in our salvation? Does "faith-only" Christianity overlook James AND Jesus AND part of what Paul said?
@Chris. This is when Christ comes in his glory to judge the world. Rapture is irrelevant (and unheard of before the 1800's). We shall be judged by this criterion. Faith without works is dead. Faith without works has not imparted grace -- "by grace are you saved".
@Esther: Paul said more than Eph 2:8 & 9. What do you say about Jesus' words?
@Art: I don't have the cart before the horse as you suppos, but I otherwise agree with you. If we call Jesus Lord, but don't do what he asked (as in Matt 25), what good is it?
@jesse: What, exactly, is out of context? I've given an entire teaching of Jesus, and the gist of both Paul and James. Please read the parts of the Bible you haven't underlined.
@Tim Isenhour: You talkin' to me or to Chris and jesse? The entire teaching is summarized in the last verse of it, Mat 25:46 : "And these [that did not minister unto the poor, sick, etc.] shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous [those who did so minister] into life eternal."
@Rebecca Laurie: Read the parable again. The words are Jesus quoting the evil king, not a demand Jesus was making for himself. It was a monologue, and Jesus had to give the part of the people and the evil king.
@Madmax: these are not contradictory at all. But it does take some honest thinking to see the conclusion correctly.
@BUBS: a faith-only Christian disagrees with James, who says we are not saved by "faith only". James 2:24 (KJV)
@Moses Abraham: "an obscure verse"?? A great teaching of Jesus "obscure"? You gotta read the gospels more.
@Bro John: you seem to think there are two gospels: one for Jews, and one for Gentiles. That's certainly not historic Christianity Use the entire council of scripture, not just the parts you've underlined.
