tempted by "our own desires"? References...
JESUS: Luke 4:1-2
Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil. Luke 4:1-2
US: James 1:13-15
Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. NKJV
I find it curious that Jesus was the only one tempted directly by the devil himself. It is interesting to note that if the devil tempted Job it wasn't directly, but through the removal of what God had given him...his possessions, his family, and his health. But Job had no face-to-face encounter as Jesus did. Could it be that only Jesus could survive a face-to-face encounter with him?
I just realized something...Eve was face-to-face with the devil in the form of a serpent. But this was while in her perfect unfallen state. H-m-m. Interesting.
