Christians: How do you keep your materialistic desires under control?

I am a guy who likes a variety of both dirty secular and clean faith-based movies and music, and I like to maintain my Facebook. However, I feel that I am becoming more drawn to adding on to my possessions or spending more time on Facebook. Or I just simply am stingy with my money, because I do not wish to spend a lot of money unless it's really important that I do so. Have you had struggles with materialism? If so, how did you manage to quell those materialistic desires?
I actually am quite a penny-pincher in terms of my spending habits. However, I'm more reluctant to give to God in order for money to be used for my own fun, I'll have to admit that.
aj-I actually got the Lord of the Rings trilogy for Christmas, and while I have not watched the DVDs I got, I have seen all three movies before. They are amazing!
