christians: a question of eternal significance regarding "the law"?

you say jesus made the law complete. how does complete turn into "no longer binding"?

for example, if your father taught you to ride a bicycle and as an adult you learned to ride a motorcycle... does that make the balance skills "no longer binding"....

why then do you consider the lessons learned from the schoomaster, as saul/paul calls the law, to be completely done away with? they should still be binding, as jesus said they would be... until all prophecy is complete.

what say ya?
fulfilled = "made complete" or "made perfect"

it does not mean "made void"
there are prophecies in the "old testament" that will be happen until the end of days... therefor by the words of jesus, all stands, none in done away with
there are prophecies of what messiah will do, that are not fulfilled yet... that is why christianity teaches that jesus will return... to finish things...

God's law is still binding. In Jesus' day, the Jews were taking things out of context and He clarified it for them.

For example, He said "you've heard it said, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, but I say if someone smites you on one cheek, turn to him the other" (or something to that effect), He was clarifying it, not disputing it. If you look at the whole context of revenge, you will see that vengeance is God's.

There are other examples of Jesus clarifying (or completing) the law. He never disputed it.
 
We are no longer under a law. The only way to be saved is to believe in Jesus Christ, confess that he is God, repent and accept him as your Lord and Savior and examine your life everyday to see if your following the word of God.

The Law itself was prophecy.

But assuming that living by the Law will gain you access to the kingdom of Heaven is the problem. We are saved through the grace, mercy, and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. To think that we could ever be righteous enough by following some set of rules is ludicrous. Why? Because we will always fail in some way.

It doesn't mean that you should not strive to be a good person. But being a good person does not mean abstaining from pork chops. Instead, being a good person means following God's commandments: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.
 
it is true that many christians make this claim. however being complete in that he fulfilled the will of YHWH does not mean it is no longer in use. If it were no longer in use then messiah would not have needed to die, for it is written " without the law there is no knoledge of sin, thus there would be no sin, this is the curse of the law". the fact that the law is steel in effect is the very reason we need a redeemer.

P.S. you athiest and outhers may not relize it but you are actually helping G/d spread his word with questions like this. Infact I have been praying for this question to come up.
 
Torah means 'your instructions'. Salvation is like a marriage contract offered to mankind by the Savior YAHOSHUA. Take His name, follow His rules (Torah) you become His ‘bride’ and He saves you. If you and He have become one, His mind will be in you , and you will choose to do those things that please Him, and you won’t break His commandments.
 
You don't really understand. Think about this:

Rom 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Rom 13:9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Rom 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

The new covenant law is a law of faith which expresses itself through love. Both Paul and James declare that love fulfills the law. Keeping the law in the letter is merely complying with it regardless of the condition of the heart. One can hate another and refrain from murder, but they are still guilty because of their heart. It is God who places the new heart in a person, and not the person changing their own heart through "keeping" a covenant law they were never a party to.

The word translated "schoolmaster" is the Greek word "paidagogos" and this was a person who accompanied a child wherever he went, including a teacher who might instruct the child. The paidagogos had the authority to even punish the child should he misbehave. Once the child became of age; was mature, the paidagogos was dismissed from his supervision of the child now adult. What you are claiming is that Christians are still immature children who need the law when in fact a Christian is complete in Christ and is led by the Holy Spirit.

The prophesies Jesus referred to in the context of Mt. 5:17 were indeed fulfilled by him, and he was not talking about the legalities of the law, seeing as the "law and the prophets" are cited, and there is no law codified in the prophets.

However, if what you say is true; none is done away with, then all the sacrifices are still required as well as circumcision.

You are referring to the fact that we are no longer held to the Law as a qualification for eternal life. The Law is there to show us we are all sinners and there is no way we can live up to the Law. That is why we need a redeemer a savior. That is in the person Christ Jesus.It does not mean we are to ignore the law and go about our lives how ever we want.
