I'm going to put this as simply as I can for everyone's benefit. First: Christianity is not a religion. It is an individual relationship with God through His son, Jesus Christ. In fact, God likens the relationship of the church to Christ as the bride and bridegroom, comparing it to an earthly marriage. Scripture tells us, "Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church, and gave Himself up for her..." For all you married people out there: Do you have a religion with your spouse or do you have a relationship with your spouse? I hope you have a relationship with him/her. Christ and the church is likened in nature to a marriage. It is an individual relationship that each member, as part of the body of Christ, has with Christ. It is not a physical relationship but a spiritual one. In the fifth chapter of Ephesians starting with the 23rd verse, the Bible clearly lays out the quality of the relationship between a husband and wife, comparing them to Christ and the Church. However, God does give the freedom within a marriage for the relationship to grow and for the man and woman to agree on their individual roles within the marriage.
