Christiane F......How good?

light headed

I've heard lots of "good" things / read generally good reviews about the Dutch (German?) movie "Christiane F"
The last review I read was of all people Jeremry Clarkson, who said as a "drug" movie was better than our own excellent "Trainspotting"
Basically, I can't find this movie to rent to want to know if it's worth the money to buy it. And I prefer subbed to dubbed movies, so non English is not a problem.

I haven't heard anybody evoke the name of this movie in years. I saw it years ago when it first came out in the early 80's and I've thought about it from time to time. I guess it just kind of sticks on people. Never knew it was on dvd, but I looked and it is (and for rent).

I remember it being a very dark movie and rather depressing, but an important film to see. Not sure I would compare it with Trainspotting (that would almost be like comparing "Titanic" with "Perfect Storm" as they both have boats), but I think it's a good film to watch, but like I said, I remember it being very depressing..

Certainly a more "documentary" feel than the stylised Trainspotting maybe due in part to the use of non-actors.I believe it was based on a true story or so the cerdits elude anyway. Has always been an essential watch for die-hard Bowie fans due to the cameo "live" concert segment & his late 70's Berlin period music is peppered throughout the film. High recommended.

The book "H" by Christiane F is miles better than the film. When I was at school, the book was always on the shelves, now it seems to be sadly out of print.

1) it's a german movie

2) It's based on tue events

3) The book was a must read during the late eighties and early 90s

4) It's a good movie but depressing.

5) As it'S from the 80s with unknown actors don't expect a masterpiece of filming but be prepared for a real life touch

...just my few cents :)
