CHRISTIAN arguments against dog-fighting (and slavery)?

Something Else

I'm going to a family event soon, and I know I'm going to confront my cousin on several issues, but most notably the issue of dog fighting. My cousin is a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Michael Vick, so this won't be the first time that we've gotten into the issue, but I'd like to have a good response this time.
He plays on my Christianity, and claims I should be more forgiving. He also plays on my upbringing in a suburban neighborhood and says that I just don't understand the values of the black community. I also know that he will say the divide between "white" and "black" values go back to slavery, and as a white man confronting a black man (my cousin is half black) it is uncomfortable to confront this idea with complete honesty.
As a CHRISTIAN (and I'm sorry to exclude people, but I'm really only looking for a Christian response, because it is a question of morals), what are the best ways to respond to these arguments?
