Chris Nolan to 'godfather' new 'Superman'?

Warner Bros has reportedly asked Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan to guide the new Superman movie.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the studio is sounding out the team that revived its ailing Batman franchise to supervise a similar job for The Man of Steel.

Insiders told the website that the next Superman feature would not follow on from Superman Returns, but could still involve its director Bryan Singer and leading man Brandon Routh.

"We know what we don't want to do. But we don't know what we want to do," a source said. "We learned a lot from the last movie, and we want to get it right this time."

Another insider added: "Warner Bros doesn't have a handle yet on it... they need to hear a great story that makes sense."

Nolan is not expected to direct the new Superman, instead acting as "godfather" to the rebooted franchise.

dont really see what Nolan could do to help with a Superman reboot. just cos he did wonders with Batman doesnt mean the same style would work for Superman.

the reason Nolan's 2 Batman films work are because they are grounded in a reality and not really comic book films. they're crime films. the closest film i can think that resembles 'Dark Knight' is Heat...!

this realistic approach works for Batman because he is merely a vigilante. Now Superman is literally an alien from another planet with superpowers. now i ask again, what could Nolan do with Superman that Bryan Singer ain't already thought of?

You make some good points and to some extent i agree. On the other hand though I'm glad there at least looking to try summat different for the next film as the last one was quite poor in my opinion, i found it quite dull and the franchise really does need a kick up the backside if there looking to make another film otherwise they should just let it rest.

I thought they were rebooting the franchise completely? So now they're planning on keeping Routh as Supes but not continuing the storyline set up in Returns? Geez, because that won't confuse anybody!

He is only working as a consultant.

The creative direction will be down to the writer and director. He is just there to advise.

jeeeez Nolan isn't a one trick pony people he can do a lot of things he is not like Tim Burton whos films are the same style. Nolan's Batman movies are not like his Memento, Insomnia or The Prestige works he can do many different styles not just dark superhero movies.

Its good news but I think it will be a long time before we see a new superman film. Especially if Nolan is involved as expect we will see a third Batman film before another Superman film!
