Chlamydia testing during pregnancy?

Is it ok to have a chlamydia test while you are pregnant? Would it effect the baby?

Reason I ask is before I found out I was pregnant (I was two days late) I was admitted to hospital with severe abdominal pain. They did a chlamydia test on me which involved turning a swab around inside the cervix (sorry if TMI and if incorrect - this is what I have been told). It hurt like hell! I'd had one done before and that had hurt too!

But I was just wondering if it could have effected my unborn baby? Just interested. We lost our little girl at 25 weeks gestation and it's just one of those things that has played on my mind since. Like did the test lead to... etc!

Just been silly probably but wondered...
Oh I didn't mention! I was negative for chlamydia! I got tested for all sorts and they all came back negative! That's when they did a scan and found cysts on my ovaries and found the baby!

Chlamydia can be treated with antibiotics and won't harm the baby if it's treated before it's born.

Friend of mine ended up having chlamydia from a previous boyfriend, then got pregnant 4 months later with her new boyfriend. They gave her a bunch of horse pill antibiotics and called it a day. Her baby was born as healthy as can be.

Were you officially diagnosed with Chlamydia? Usually they do a standard STD test at your first prenatal appointment so that if you have anything serious that cannot be cured by simple treatments, they are aware of that when you give birth.. for example: herpes. can't deliver vaginally if there are open sores with herpes so they are required to give a c-section.

Good luck :o)
