Children

I gave my son one corner of the livingroom to clean. I have cleaned an entire room and he is still sitting there. Why isnt it legal to beat children anymore? Oh, and in his parent teacher conference, the teacher said that he is the most brilliant student she has ever had, he is in 4th grade and already can do algebra, but he is always on his own agenda. They want me to consider medication, to "calm him down" wtf is that? Im not putting my kid on dope to make him stupid.
Ah, the joys of parenting.

I recall them telling my parents the same thing.

"He needs medicine"

But at the time, they were telling just about every single kid that, who had had a bit of a harder life, and then acted out on it.

Don't fret, it's something he will grow out of.

Make sure you nuture his skills, and make him proud of what he can do.

Otherwise, screw those damn psychiatrists, and teachers. Most of them aren't any smarter than you or me. Fuckers.

No disrespect to anyone at all who has been taking meds for a while, or has a really good psychiatrist.

Shit DG, if he understands algebra in 4rth grade, I recommend the folllowing curriculum for him:
5th: Geometry
6th: Trigonometry
7th: Differential Calculus
8th: Integral Calculus
HS Freshmen: Number Threory & Proofs
HS Sophomore: Linear Algebra
HS Junior: Differential Equations
Fuck Senior Year, Send him to MIT. He'll be the first CareBear to with a Nobel Prize.

I agree. We are putting him in the gifted child program. kid can do math better than I! Which isnt saying much since I barely made it past 9th grade math. LOL.

LOL skitch. Actually, it is kind of funny, because He is having a boy weekend with his papa and he just called me (8 am on a saturday) and was like, mom will you bring me the xbox? and I go...umm...yeah...i guess..... then he says "even though Im grounded its still ok?" so i say, thank you for being honest and reminding me, but no, I cant bring you the xbox today. Poor kid.

Come to Texas you can do almost anything you want to them there are still many "old time values" left in the south. The people here tend to remember how they were raised and have no problem with it.

I blame the liberals. When I was a kid, I used to get beat. Once, my sister etched my name into my dad's desk. Why? I don't know. My dad saw it, immediately thought I did it, and smacked me so hard i went flying up the stairs. Thats the hardest I've ever been punished, if i can remember.

I tend to agree with this statement. If you're worried about the cops, don't be. Most cops tend to agree with corporal punishment and, if anything does happen with the cops who are they going to believe, a snot nosed brat or, a sophisticated mother and her friend who say that her child was in a rage b/c they couldn't play X-Box so they called the cops. Just make sure you don't leave bruises that are easily visable. If you do Preperation H gets rid of them quicker than waiting for it to heal naturally. It also gets rid of dark circles under your eyes but thats another thread. There is much to be said for a good beating. It builds charicter. I remember the old saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.". Now it seems to be "Sticks and stones are illegal now and words will devistate my innner child for the rest of my life.". What has parenting come to when you can't discipline your own kids and when you do, they say that you "scared them for life"?

Tom was one of the most brilliant guys I've ever met. He wasn't ADD, he could focus, his brain just never shut off. But nobody ever challenged him. His parents were non-existent and no gifted class was ever available. So he became a trouble maker because shool was so damn dull for him. We're talking about a guy who could teach half the classes he was in.

So he medicated himself. You name it, if he could smoke it, swallow it, snort it or shoot it he did. I asked him why. His answer: "Cuz I need to be dumber so I can fit in and not be bored all the time." Basically he chose to fuck his mind up so he would "fit" in. Now, he's a tile cutter and happy as shit. He can't do basic math without help but he's happy.

The funniest thing Tom ever did was his Christmas goal for 1993. Steel one 6' or taller tree every day. He got busted with 27 Christmas trees in his house. Nobody pressed charges mainly because nobody could figure out where he got all the trees or how he stole them.

Long story short, keep your kid challenged. Don't dope him up because his brains blow the bell curve. Anymore teachers just want to push pills on any kid that doesn't just sit down, shut up and stare blankly ahead.

let me guess, they tested him for ADD. soon after, they wanted to test him for TAG(Talented and Gifted for those not in the know), right? he doesn't need medication, he needs to be stimulated, he doesn't have ADD he's bored! move his smart ass into a higher class and slap th shit out of the teacher that suggested medicating him for a problem that he doesn't have so they can keep him in their class. having been in that situation, offer him rewards for doing something right for regular periods of time. give him lists of things to do in a week, and if he does them all then reward him with something he wants. it worked on me, I had that same situation.
