My son is 5yo and was diagnosed with skin prick testing of an egg allergy at 6 months of age. Tests were repeated twice more each 2 years apart and according to the test/my doctor, the same result, a severe egg allergy.

The thing is, my son eats eggs in cooked food on a regular basis and has NEVER had a reaction of any kind.

My issue is my son also suffers from severe asthma, he got swine flu last year and was incredibly ill with it. For this reason I want him vaccinated.

As he is under 10, he has to have 2 shots 4 weeks apart. I went to a clinic for the first shot, he had it and had no reaction whatsoever. For the second shot we were told to go and see the GP.

I did so yesterday and the GP refuses to give him the second shot, because of the allergy. I fully explained the history, pointing out he had no reaction to the first shot and he still refuses. He also called the Allergy doctor that agreed he shouldnt have it due to a possibility that he could have a reaction.

I would NEVER do anything to intentionally harm my son, and I feel the benefits of him having the shot far outweigh any perceived risk. I do not want to enter the flu season with him getting sick. He started school this year and I want to do everything I can to ensure he does not miss too much.

I would appreciate any comments/advice from all, and especially from a medical professional. Please help!

my son (8)also has an egg allergy.. they said that by 6 they usually out grow it... and that as long as it's cooked he can still have them. He has had the flu shots with no reaction... I'm surprised that they already gave him one dose and won't give the other. He suffers from breathing issues as well...

It's not an easy thing to decide... I wouldn't intentionally hurt my son either.. but I only found out that he was allergic to about 12 items a month ago.. some severe and off the charts. (And he's had eggs with cheese for 2 weeks, leading up to and past the testing, and is allergic to BOTH)
I would make an appointment with the allergist and speak to them in person. That way if they decide that it's ok, they can write a prescription for it and the dr should take it... I hope you get what you need... you are the parent and should have some say.
