Cheyenne, Wyoming?

So, Cricket seems to allow free roaming on pretty much all of Sprint's network. Why is Cheyenne, Wyoming conspicuously absent from the coverage map? Sprint works well here, and would be a huge help for Denver customers coming up to visit...

If I had to guess I would go off a hunch that it possibly has to do with roaming agreements already in place with UBTA or Verizon.

Look on the sprint thread and you'll see something about sprint in wyoming. Basically after march 11 there will significantly less sprint native coverage in wyoming, montana and 2 other states. I'm sure this probably has something to do w it.

Strata's network only affects the Western part of the state, so I doubt they have influence here.

I don't know what deal Cricket has with Verizon. It doesn't appear to be anything more than roaming that is not free to Cricket customers, but I could be wrong.

The reduction of coverage on Sprint would not affect this. The prior 'almost-native' coverage was Alltel coverage that is being switched over to GSM by at&t, therefore no longer allowing Sprint customers to access it. It was part of that network sharing agreement between Sprint and Alltel in the West. The network I'm referring to is Sprint owned.

Has anyone actually possibly tried using their phone up here and either had success or failure? This seems to be about the only piece of the Sprint network in the country that is excluded.

Thanks for the ideas so far. :)

Well, after looking at a Cricket PRL this is what I found:

SID 4121 (Sprint in Denver) is not in the PRL.
SID 6499 (Nex-Tech Wireless - Sprint Affiliate), which is the coverage to the East of Denver following I-70 to Kansas is in the PRL.

So, it looks like Cricket probably thought their network was as good or greater than Sprint's in Denver, and stripped the Sprint SID to alleviate in-market roaming. However, this sucks because in the process, they strip Cheyenne out because it uses the same SID as Denver.

Can't say I'm happy, but what's a man to do.
