My 2000 Chevrolet Impala had been sitting for about a week. On December 13th, 2008 my fiance went to start it and the engine caught on fire. After looking it over he thought it was from the fuel pressure regulator, which was a recalled part that was fixed in 2005. We found there was also a later recall in 2007 that we were never informed of. We had the car towed to the closest Chevy dealer and the next day the Service Manager called me and told me to call GM to file a claim. I called and they reassigned my case to GM Esis. I spoke with a Josh P. there and he told me his legal department told him that there was nothing they would do because of the Economic Loss Law. When I asked if this law still applied even though the part that caused the fire was recalled he said he didn't know, that his legal department told him that they would do nothing. Is this correct?

In recalls even though all are recalled only a lot of that part is bad. It is a extremely small percent or Government would not permit you to drive until fixed. If it is lot number you may win, if not then you lose.

I'd call around and try to find a lawyer that handles such caes and only gets paid if they win the case bec they can check the courts and find out if any such cases exist already or in past against GM and also they can gain access to vital files that that the general public can't.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way do your own home work not only of the situation but on the lawyer or firm you're interested in too.
Personally I think that you've a great case but it will take time but you never do know once a good lawyer is involved if GM will settle out of court , plus keep in mind that the majority of such cases are in fact settled out of court.
