I drive a 1996 chevy cavalier automatic transmission. It has about 147,000 miles on it. I was driving home a couple days ago and the car seemed to lose a little power and it was knocking hard into gear, almost seemed like it was slipping. I was able to make it in my driveway when just then, the check engine light went on and it sounded like metal was grinding together under my hood. I shut the car off and was about to bring it to my mechanic. I turned it back on and it started up but still heard the metal grinding sound and when I placed it into drive it wouldn't go anywhere when I hit the gas.. wouldnt do a thing in reverse either. Anyone knowledgeable about cars- off the top of your head, what do you think could be the problem?
