CHEVY "CAVALIER ETS OFF" AND "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" ON?

I have a 97 chevy cavalier that was recently in a car accident. At first it only appeared to be body damage but now the ETS OFF and CHECK ENGINE light continue to come on. I took it to Autozone to get the code read and the code read OEM- P0440 and said that it has a small leak with no flow condition. The guy said I may have had a loose fuel cap but even when tightened the light continues to come on...I have no clue what this means or why my light continues to come on or how to go about getting it fixed...
